About

Mathieu Berthet.

Sound engineer since 2004, independent since 2006. Mastering and vinyl cutting, in Paris.

A childhood in music

I was immersed in music from an early age thanks to my family. Introduced to the piano very young, it was my brother Frédéric who brought me to electronic music in the early 90s, sparking my passion for synthesizers.

DJing, production, training

Passionate about DJing and club culture, I naturally moved towards music production. In 2001 I started working at Cyber Productions, one of France's leading producers and distributors of electronic music records, while completing my training at SAE (School of Audio Engineering) in Paris. Working alongside French and international artists from that time on, I refined my craft as a sound engineer.

Sound engineer since 2004, independent since 2006

A sound engineer since 2004, I became independent in 2006. For years I have welcomed artists and labels for mastering and cutting sessions. The studio is now located at 150 rue Saint-Maur, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

Mastering and cutting: two crafts that reinforce each other

For twenty years my work has revolved around two complementary axes: audio mastering — stereo, stems, remote — and vinyl cutting on a Neumann VMS66 lathe. Mastering for vinyl means knowing how to prepare a master that can genuinely be cut; mastering the cut means understanding the physical constraints the master must respect. Projects that come through the studio span a wide range of styles — techno, house, hip-hop, jazz, rock, pop, chanson, world. That diversity forces you to understand the codes of each genre rather than applying a standardized treatment.

The work, verifiable.

Every project that comes through the studio is credited on Discogs, project by project, with the exact role — mastering, vinyl mastering, lacquer cutting. The credits page gives an overview by genre.
